Fictiv Alternatives for Aerospace Parts
Fictiv is a strong fit for fast, CAD-driven prototypes and production parts that are not export restricted. Look at an alternative when the job is ITAR controlled, carries an export classification outside EAR99 or 9E991, depends on prime-approved processors, or needs a full aerospace cert package you want one accountable party to check.
Updated
The short answer
Use Fictiv when speed and instant pricing matter most and the part is unrestricted. Use an ITAR-registered AS9100 shop, a digital manufacturer that states ITAR registration, or a sourcing partner when the data is controlled or the requirements reach past what a self-serve upload can carry.
Everything we say about Fictiv comes from its own public pages, listed under Sources, and reflects what we read in October 2026. Policies change, so confirm anything critical with Fictiv before you rely on it. We also list our own trade-offs, because a comparison that only flatters the author is not useful to you.
What Fictiv offers, from its own pages
As of October 2026, Fictiv describes itself as a digital manufacturing platform backed by a vetted network of manufacturing partners, with instant pricing and design for manufacturability feedback on quotes. In June 2025, Digital Engineering reported that MISUMI Group completed its acquisition of Fictiv.
- Quoting. Fictiv's aerospace page advertises instant pricing and DFM, with pricing for up to 5 quantities in one quote. Its CNC page says the platform gives free DFM feedback before order on all quotations and that the quoting engine analyzes drawings for special callouts.
- Processes. The aerospace page lists CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, 3D printing, compression molding and urethane casting, plus in-network finishing, joining and assembly, and Nadcap special process finishing shops in its network.
- Certifications. Fictiv states an ISO 9001:2015 quality system. Its certified manufacturing page says its network includes AS9100D, ISO 13485 and Nadcap-approved manufacturing partners, and its eVTOL page refers to AS9100 Rev D and IATF 16949:2016 certified manufacturing centers.
- Documentation. Fictiv says every order offers raw material certifications, heat and lot traceability and quality documentation, and that a certificate of conformance, dimensional inspection reports and CMM data are available on demand in the platform.
- Export control. Fictiv's help center, updated February 2026, says the platform supports EAR99 and 9E991 parts. Projects under other ECCNs must start off-platform through an Export-Controlled Project Request Form and be reviewed by its Sales and Compliance teams before files go to its FedRAMP-compliant storage. It states that it does not support ITAR-controlled parts, technical data or services, and that a quote is deleted automatically if ITAR language is detected in a drawing. Its aerospace page says it supports aerospace parts only for non-export-restricted projects.
- Who you contract with. You order through Fictiv. Its manufacturing partner terms, revised April 2026, describe Fictiv passing requests to its affiliates and issuing work orders to partners, with partner communication about an order running through Fictiv unless Fictiv authorizes otherwise in writing.
Where Fictiv is a good fit
Fictiv is built for parts a CAD model and drawing fully define, ordered by teams that value a self-serve, fast process. For those jobs it is a reasonable first choice, and we would tell you so.
- Prototypes and development hardware where the price and lead time in minutes help a design decision.
- Short and mid production runs of commercial or EAR99 aerospace parts, including eVTOL and drone hardware, where comparing several quantities in one quote is useful.
- Parts that need a mix of Fictiv's listed processes, such as a machined housing with a molded cover, which it can coordinate inside its own network.
- Buyers who want CMM data, material certs and a certificate of conformance pulled from a platform rather than chased by email.
When to look at an alternative
Look elsewhere when the export classification, the flow-downs, or the type of item falls outside what Fictiv states it supports.
The data is ITAR controlled
Fictiv states it does not support ITAR work. Defense and many launch and spacecraft drawings carry USML technical data, so you need a supplier that is registered with the State Department and moves data to US persons only. Read our controlled programs page for how we handle this.
The ECCN is not EAR99 or 9E991
Fictiv says it can likely support other ECCNs, such as spacecraft hardware under 9A515, but only after an off-platform review. If you need an answer the same day, a shop already set up for controlled data may be quicker.
Your contract names approved processors
Prime quality clauses often require plating, heat treat or NDT from specific approved sources. Ask any vendor, including Fictiv, how a drawing note naming an approved processor reaches the shop and who proves it was followed. See aerospace special processes.
You need a full AS9102 package or a source inspection
We did not find AS9102 first article inspection described on the Fictiv pages we read. If your customer requires an AS9102 report with balloon drawings and special process certs, confirm it before ordering. Our guide to AS9102 first article inspection lists what a complete package contains.
The item is not a custom part
Obsolete components, certified surplus material and large ground support equipment weldments are search, verification and fabrication jobs that a CAD upload does not cover. See obsolete aerospace parts and ground support equipment.
Fictiv and the alternatives, side by side
| Question | Fictiv (as it states, October 2026) | ITAR-registered AS9100 job shop | Sourcing partner (how we work) |
|---|---|---|---|
| How quoting works | Online upload, instant pricing and DFM feedback, up to 5 quantities per quote | RFQ to the shop, a person quotes from your drawing package | Request reviewed by a person, matched to suppliers, one quote back; reply within 1 business day |
| ITAR and export handling | EAR99 and 9E991 on platform; other ECCNs off-platform after review; ITAR not supported | Varies; ask for registration status and how data is restricted to US persons | No ITAR, EAR or CUI data through the website; secure transfer to US persons only |
| Certifications stated | ISO 9001:2015 quality system; network includes AS9100D, ISO 13485 and Nadcap-approved partners | Its own AS9100 certificate, verifiable in OASIS; Nadcap per process | We match the job to suppliers whose certifications fit; we hold no certifications ourselves |
| Process breadth | CNC, sheet metal, molding, die casting, 3D printing, urethane casting, finishing and assembly in network | Usually one core process, with outside processors it manages | Machining, fabrication, special processes, obsolete parts, surplus material, GSE, test lab time |
| Who is party to your order | Fictiv; partners work under Fictiv work orders | The shop that makes the part | The sourcing partner, one purchase order even across several shops |
| Paperwork delivered | Material certs, heat and lot traceability, CoC, dimensional and CMM reports available on demand | What your PO requires, often CoC, material certs, FAI, process certs | Certificate of conformance on every order, plus the certs your request requires, checked before delivery |

An alternatives map by situation
Pick the alternative by the reason Fictiv does not fit, not by brand. The table pairs each common reason with the type of supplier to look at and the one thing to check first.
| Your situation | Alternative to consider | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Instant quote needed, but on a different platform | Another instant-quote marketplace; see Xometry alternatives | Its stated export classes and which network shop makes the part |
| Fast in-house prototypes and molding | A digital manufacturer with its own factories; see Protolabs alternatives | Whether ITAR registration and AS9100 cover the facility making your part |
| ITAR drawings, recurring part | A direct, ITAR-registered AS9100 job shop | OASIS listing and written US-persons data controls |
| Prime-approved plating, heat treat or NDT | The approved process house, directly or through your machinist | Nadcap status in the PRI QML and the prime's approval list |
| Several shops, heavy flow-downs, one PO wanted | A sourcing partner | Who checks the cert package and who owns corrective action |
| Obsolete part or certified surplus material | Authorized distributor first, then a vetted independent distributor or sourcing partner | Traceability to the original manufacturer and counterfeit controls |
For a longer, situation-by-situation guide that covers distributors and special process houses as well, read the best way to source aerospace parts.
When a sourcing partner fits, and what it costs you
A sourcing partner fits when the work is controlled, spans several processes or shops, or needs paperwork checked before it reaches your dock. We do not run machines. We take your request, match it to qualified suppliers, flow down your requirements, track the job, check the paperwork and deliver with a cert package.
- Controlled programs. Suppliers sign a flow-down NDA before they see files, and they do not learn the end customer unless you approve. Controlled data moves by secure transfer to US persons only. See confidentiality.
- Mixed processes. Machining, anodize, NDT and cleaning can sit with different suppliers while you hold one quote, one lead time and one purchase order.
- Paperwork. Every order ships with a certificate of conformance, plus material certs, FAI or process certs when your request requires them.
The trade-offs are real. There is no instant price, because a person reviews each request. On a simple unrestricted part, a platform like Fictiv will likely be faster. We are a new service and do not promise we have a supplier for every job, a set lead time or a set price. If your customer requires approved sources, the shop that makes the part may still need to be on your approved supplier list, whichever route you use. Our marketplace versus sourcing partner comparison covers these trade-offs in general terms.
Questions to settle before you move a part off any platform
- What is the export classification of this part and its drawing, and who decided it?
- Does the new supplier hold the certification your contract flows down, and is it in OASIS? Our AS9100 versus ISO 9001 guide explains when each is enough.
- Which outside processors will touch the part, and are they approved where your contract requires it?
- Who performs the first article, and in what format?
- Who signs the certificate of conformance, and what does it certify?
- Will you be told before the process, source or location changes?
Send every option the same complete scope so the answers compare. Our aerospace RFQ checklist lists what that scope should contain, and material certs and traceability explains what to expect on the material side.
Send the part that does not fit a platform
If your part is ITAR controlled, carries an ECCN outside EAR99 or 9E991, or needs approved processors and a full cert package, send it through the CNC machining quote form. Do not attach controlled drawings; describe the part and its classification, and we will set up secure transfer to US persons. A person replies within 1 business day, and if Fictiv or another platform is the better fit for the job, we will say so. More on aerospace CNC machining.
Send the job. A person replies within 1 business day.
Part, quantity and date are enough to start. Drawings and the mutual NDA follow by reply, and controlled programs never send technical data through this site.
We have it.

Questions
Does Fictiv accept ITAR parts?
As of October 2026, Fictiv's help center states that it does not support ITAR-controlled parts, technical data or services. It also says that if ITAR language is detected in a drawing, the quote and files are deleted automatically, and that selecting ITAR during classification deletes the quote and removes the data. For ITAR work, use a supplier registered with the State Department that restricts data to US persons, and confirm its status in writing before you send files.
Can Fictiv make parts with an ECCN other than EAR99?
Fictiv says its platform supports EAR99 and 9E991 parts directly. For other ECCNs, it says it can likely support the project but that it cannot start on the self-service platform. You submit an Export-Controlled Project Request Form, and its Sales and Compliance teams review it before any files are uploaded to its FedRAMP-compliant storage. Allow time for that review in your schedule.
Is Fictiv AS9100 certified?
Fictiv's pages state an ISO 9001:2015 quality system and say its network includes AS9100D certified manufacturing partners, and its eVTOL page refers to AS9100 Rev D certified manufacturing centers. If your contract requires AS9100 at the tier that makes your part, ask which facility will make it and look that facility up in the IAQG OASIS database before you order.
What is the best Fictiv alternative for defense parts?
It depends on why you are switching. For ITAR drawings on a recurring part, a direct ITAR-registered AS9100 shop often gives the best long-term relationship. For work that passes through several shops or needs prime-approved processors, a sourcing partner can hold one purchase order and check the cert package. For fast unrestricted prototypes, another instant-quote platform may suit. Match the supplier type to the requirement rather than the brand.
Who owns Fictiv now?
Digital Engineering reported in June 2025 that MISUMI Group Inc., a Japan-headquartered supplier of mechanical components, had completed its acquisition of Fictiv. Fictiv continues to operate its platform under its own name. If ownership matters to your program, for example for foreign ownership questions on a controlled contract, raise it with Fictiv and your own export and security staff.
Is a sourcing partner slower than Fictiv?
For a first price on a simple unrestricted part, yes. Fictiv advertises instant pricing, while a person reviews every request we receive and replies within 1 business day. The time can come back on complex jobs, where we flow down requirements and check paperwork before parts ship instead of after a rejection. We do not promise specific lead times, so compare the full schedule, including your own time spent coordinating.
