Sourcing Aerospace Parts in Florida
Florida buyers get the most from in-state suppliers when the part has to be installed, reworked or inspected near where it flies or gets tested. Most launch demand sits on the Space Coast, while Orlando, Jacksonville and the Panhandle pull different kinds of hardware.
Where Florida's aerospace hardware gets used
Florida does not have one aerospace market. It has several clusters spread across the state, and the best place to buy a part usually depends on which cluster will install it, test it or fly it.
| Region | Who is buying | Hardware that tends to come up |
|---|---|---|
| Space Coast (Brevard County) | Launch providers at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center, Blue Origin and satellite makers in Exploration Park, defense and aircraft programs around Melbourne | Pad and vehicle ground hardware, lifting fixtures, fluid system parts, precision machined housings, harnesses |
| Orlando | Team Orlando, the joint military simulation group based largely in the Central Florida Research Park, plus Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control and Rotary and Mission Systems | Trainer and simulator hardware, consoles, cable assemblies, missile and sensor components |
| Northeast Florida | Fleet Readiness Center Southeast, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Embraer and others around Cecil Airport, Cecil Commerce Center and NAS Jacksonville | Maintenance and overhaul support parts, sheet metal, aircraft spares |
| Northwest Florida | Bases such as Eglin Air Force Base and Naval Air Station Pensacola | Test range support hardware and aircraft sustainment parts |
If your program is in Brevard County, the local pages below go deeper. If it is elsewhere in the state, the same logic applies: start with shops that can drive to your receiving dock and work back from there.
Why most launch demand lands on the Space Coast
The Space Force called the Eastern Range the world's busiest spaceport in 2024, and every launch uses ground hardware that wears out, gets modified or needs a spare. Space Launch Delta 45, which runs the range from Patrick Space Force Base, reported 93 launches in 2024. Local coverage at the end of 2025 put that year at a record 109, with SpaceX flying 101 of them on Falcon 9.
Those launches come from a short list of pads, each run by a different operator:
- Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center, leased by SpaceX from NASA since 2014.
- Launch Complex 39B at Kennedy, NASA's pad for the Space Launch System and Orion on Artemis missions.
- Space Launch Complex 40 on the Space Force station, owned by the Space Force with SpaceX as tenant for Falcon 9.
- Space Launch Complex 41, used by United Launch Alliance for Atlas V and Vulcan.
- Launch Complex 36, rebuilt by Blue Origin for New Glenn.
- Space Launch Complex 37, which the Department of the Air Force cleared in December 2025 for conversion to a Starship launch and landing site.
- Space Launch Complex 46, operated under license by Space Florida as a multi-user pad.
For a buyer, the practical meaning is that a lot of pad work happens on a short clock between campaigns. When a bracket cracks, a fixture needs a change or a fitting is the wrong thread, the turnaround that matters is measured in days, and distance starts to cost real schedule.
When an in-state supplier is worth it, and when it is not
Buying in Florida pays off when the part is tied to a site schedule. It matters less for standard production parts that ship on a planned cadence.
Cases where a nearby shop tends to win:
- Rework and fit-up. A part that does not fit on the pad or in the cleanroom can go back to a local shop the same day instead of sitting in a freight queue.
- Source inspection and witnessed first articles. Your quality engineer can drive to the shop, watch a first article inspection and sign off, rather than relying only on a report.
- Oversized or awkward items. Stands, frames and handling fixtures are expensive to crate and ship. Short truck moves on local roads are simpler.
- Short notice campaign support. Pickups, last minute changes and after hours handoffs are easier when the shop is an hour away, not a flight away.
Cases where the right answer may be out of state:
- A special process, such as a specific plating or heat treat approval, that no Florida source holds for your prime.
- Large forgings, castings or mill products that only a few plants in the country produce.
- High volume production where cost per piece outweighs the value of proximity.
Plenty of jobs end up split: machining near the Cape, a special process somewhere else, final inspection back home. That is where a single point of contact helps.
Logistics a Florida buyer has to plan for
Three things catch out-of-state buyers on Florida jobs: the water between the mainland and the launch sites, the access rules at the gates, and the weather.
Bridges and causeways
Kennedy Space Center sits on Merritt Island and the Space Force station sits on the cape, so every delivery crosses the Indian River Lagoon or the Banana River. NASA's own directions send visitors in on State Road 528, then State Road 405 over the NASA Causeway, or up State Road 3 from Merritt Island. State Road 401 runs north from Cape Canaveral past the Port Canaveral cruise terminals to the station's south gate. Bridge work, launch day traffic and drawbridge openings all add time, so build slack into any same-day promise.
Gate access and badging
A part does not count as delivered until it is through the gate. On the Space Force side, the Visitor Control Center asks for a REAL ID compliant license (or a second federal photo ID), current registration and proof of insurance. Since February 28, 2026, Patrick and the Cape have suspended the Trusted Traveler program, so everyone needs a pass, and contractors are processed through their host organization's base access sponsor. At Kennedy, anyone on official business needs a Kennedy issued badge coordinated through a Kennedy sponsor, picked up at the badging office just outside Gate 3. Line up the sponsor before the part is finished, not after.
Hurricane season
NOAA's official Atlantic season runs from June 1 to November 30, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October. A storm can close shops, bridges and gates for days. For work due in that window, ask suppliers how they protect work in process and material, and keep a backup plan for critical parts.
The paperwork does not change at the state line
A Florida shop has to meet the same requirements as any other aerospace supplier, and you should write them into the request the same way.
- Drawing and revision, material specification and finish callouts.
- Quality system expectations, usually AS9100 for flight and production work.
- First article inspection to AS9102 when the part is new or the design has changed. See what an AS9102 FAI includes.
- Certificate of conformance and material certs traceable to the mill.
- Approved sources for special processes such as anodize, plating, heat treat and NDT.
- Export classification. ITAR or EAR controlled data and CUI should never go through a web form. Read how we handle NDAs and controlled data.
The RFQ checklist lays out what to include so a quote comes back complete the first time.
Local guides for Space Coast buyers
Each of these pages covers one part of Brevard County from a buyer's point of view: who is nearby, how parts move, and what to watch for.
- CNC machining in Cape Canaveral: Port Canaveral, the station's south gate and booster recovery operations.
- CNC machining in Titusville: the NASA Causeway route into Kennedy, Space Coast Regional Airport and new defense production.
- CNC machining in Melbourne: the airport industrial area and defense electronics and aircraft programs.
- Ground support equipment on the Space Coast: stands, fixtures, lifting hardware and fluid system parts for the pads.
- Aerospace parts near Kennedy Space Center: quick turn parts for work inside the gates.

Send a Florida parts request
Aerospace Sourcing is. We take a request for custom parts, match it to qualified suppliers, flow down your quality requirements and return one quote with one lead time and one point of contact, even when more than one shop is involved. A person replies within one business day, and rush requests go to the front. Every order ships with a certificate of conformance.
If your part is headed for a Florida pad, cleanroom or test cell, start a machining request and tell us where it has to be delivered so we can plan around the gate.
Questions
Is it cheaper to buy aerospace parts from a Florida shop?
Not always. Piece price depends on material, setup, tolerances, finishing, inspection and quantity, and a shop elsewhere may quote lower on a simple production run. What a nearby shop saves you is freight, crating, travel for source inspection and the schedule cost of a slow rework loop. For parts tied to a launch campaign or a test date, those savings often matter more than a small difference in unit price. See our page on aerospace machining cost for the full list of drivers.
Can a supplier deliver directly to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station or Kennedy Space Center?
Yes, but only with the right access. The Space Force station requires a base pass, and since February 2026 contractors go through their host organization's base access sponsor. Kennedy requires a Kennedy issued badge arranged through a Kennedy sponsor. Many buyers have parts delivered to an off-site receiving location or picked up by badged staff instead. Tell us the delivery point when you request a quote so the handoff is planned up front.
How does hurricane season affect lead times in Florida?
The official Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with the busiest stretch from mid-August to mid-October according to NOAA. A storm can close shops, roads and base gates for several days, and recovery can take longer. It does not mean every job slips, but critical parts due in that window deserve extra schedule margin, a plan for protecting material, and in some cases a second source.
Do Florida suppliers need different certifications than suppliers in other states?
No. Aerospace requirements come from your contract and your customer, not the state. Expect the same AS9100 quality system, AS9102 first article inspection, material traceability, special process approvals and export rules wherever the shop is. Florida programs such as the APEX Accelerator help shops get registered and certified, but the bar a part has to clear is the same in Titusville as in Ohio.
Can you send ITAR controlled drawings through the quote form?
No. Do not upload ITAR, EAR controlled or CUI data through the website. Send a description and the non-controlled details first. Every supplier signs a flow-down NDA before seeing customer files, and controlled data moves only by secure transfer to US persons. Our confidentiality page explains the process.
What if the job needs a special process no Florida shop is approved for?
Then it goes to an approved source wherever it is. A common pattern is machining near the launch site, a special process at an approved outside house, and final inspection before delivery. We coordinate those handoffs under one purchase order and flow down your requirements to each shop, so you are not managing three vendors and three sets of paperwork.
